I entered into a Consent Order on November 5, 2003 with the Nursing Board. I completed all the orders and received a 100% compliance letter, and the reinstatement of my licenses with no restrictions in 2007. I don’t understand why their is still the consent order attached to my nursing licenses. I just thought after so many years it could be removed. It is very embarrassing having to explain to potential employers. I always loved nursing and was a very good nurse. I have stayed out of nursing because of the stigma of the consent order. I want to go back to nursing very bad, and think if this old record could be removed my chances of working in Home Health would improve. I am 57 years old have had and done many different jobs since 2003 have even received other Ga. licenses. I would really be thankful if You could help me.

Hey Chris! Sorry to hear about your trouble. It can be so frustrating especially when you have to deal with the BON. I don’t know if you can ever get rid of the consent order because it just says that you voluntarily agreed to consent to the facts of the case and it is an agreement between you and the board of nursing. I think the reason you may be having trouble getting the home health job is because you have something on your record which you would have to disclose even if the consent order was removed. Many people who have had disciplinary action on their record (although they correct it and get their license back) have trouble finding jobs because agencies are really picky about it. If you do get it removed, you will still have to disclose to your potential employer about your job history because they always ask if you have had any disciplinary action against your license. My advice is don’t give up because you seem like you love nursing and we all make mistakes. You will just have to look harder and longer than others but you should find a job. I know some nurses who have had some disciplinary actions against their record and it took awhile for them to get a job. One thing that is in your favor is that you don’t have any restrictions on it. I know that some nursing specialties are a little more lax on hiring nurses with records such as mental health nursing, dialysis clinics etc….Davita is a good one. Good luck to you Chris!
